The Faculty of Medicine was established in October 2001 with three departments; Anatomy, Medical Biochemistry and Physiology, The Faculty was set up to train undergraduate medical students in pre-clinical, and prepare them for their future training in clinical medicine

This shall be a professional Medical degree programme leading to the award of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB,BS) degree. Study for the MB,BS degree shall be on a full-time basis for a minimum period of five years.

This program is to provide students with a broad and balanced foundation of a sound scientific, professional platform for the production of medical doctors who would be capable of working anywhere in Nigeria and be acceptable by the international community to train medical doctors with sufficient management ability to play a leadership role in health care delivery and develop a range of transferable skills that are of value in Medical practice.

The program is made for all Science Students who intend to study medicine, lab tech, and other Related medical courses.

Actually, all hope for the students is to study at the University of their choice so they don’t see themselves going low to study at Polytechnics talk more of a college of Education but because of the country will find ourselves gaining admission have become so high and difficult which keep many students at home and deviating them from there dream course they choose to study maybe because of their Jamb low cut of mark, post utme scores or maybe other institution factors

 ADMISSION REQUIREMENT
Admission through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) shall be offered for a six-year programme and Direct entry admission for a five-year programme.

 REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION THROUGH UTME: 
Candidates shall be required to have passed the SSCE/WASCE, General Certificate of Education (GCE ‘0’ level) or an approved equivalent examination with credit level in not more than two sittings. The subjects required for admission through UTME are:-
i) English Language
ii) Mathematics
iii) Physics
iv) Chemistry
v) Biology

 DIRECT ENTRY ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates for Direct Entry Admission shall have passed the Advanced Level General Certificate of Education (“A” Level GCE) examination or approved equivalent examinations, with acceptable Grades in
(i) Physics,
(ii) Chemistry and
iii) Biology or Zoology, (plus a Credit level pass in the English Language, and Mathematics at the SSCE/GCE (‘0″ Level) or equivalent examination) in addition to UTME requirements. In addition, candidates with good University degrees in the Sciences, preferably one of the Basic Medical Sciences of Anatomy, Physiology or Biochemistry from Universities recognized by Senate for this purpose will be accepted as priority admissions. Also, candidates with any other relevant Science subject that the College shall approve from time to time shall be considered for admission. Candidates must present the NYSC certificate to qualify. All Direct Entry and UTME candidates shall normally undergo an aptitude test administered by the University. Additionally, the UTME and Direct entry admissions shall fulfill the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) regulations, as published in the JAMB Brochure for that academic year, unless otherwise changed by law.

EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
The curriculum shall be Community-oriented and contemporary in scope to meet the needs of the 21st century. The training shall be Community and Hospital-based.
The aim is to establish partnerships for the health of the community. The educational programme shall be designed to meet the health needs of society.

 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The aim is to produce graduates who shall be well equipped

a) To practice effective1v in a Primary, Secondary or Tertiary Health Care Facility in an Urban or Rural area.
b) To work effectively in the health team, and to assume a leadership role when necessary.
c) To be an effective health advocate for the needs of the community.
d) To investigate the causes of local epidemics and proffer solutions.
e) To be knowledgeable in health policies, health management, and global health issues.
f).To be capable of conducting independent research.
g) To be able to benefit from the further specialist or further Medical Scientific training in Nigeria or anywhere else in the world.

A.S LEARNING METHODS: 
The method of learning shall be integrated, self-directed, tutor-guided and problem-based. The methods employed shall include:
(a) Didactic Lectures, use of Models, Phantoms, skill laboratories, audiovisuals, patient simulators, books, journals, peers, patient care centres, and the community with its environment,
(b) Tutorials and seminars
(c) Project writing and presentation
(d) Essays on selected topics, using relevant Bibliography

A.6 LEARNING AREAS: 
Learning Areas shall include the Basic Medical Sciences, Community Health, General Medical practice, Neuropsychological Medicine, Investigative Medicine, Clinical Clerkships, Surgery, including Casualty and Theatres.

A.7 LEARNING OUTCOME 
Graduates of the degree programme are expected to have:
(a) Broad knowledge of the effects of the environment, community-related issues on human health.
(b) Good knowledge of the structure and function of the human body in health and disease.
(c) Good knowledge and skill in the diagnosis and treatment of common diseases and disorders. A good working knowledge of ethical and cultural Issues in Medical Practice.
(d) A good understanding of the Health Services Organization and Management.
(e) Understanding of the Fundamental Techniques and Methodology in Health Sciences Research including Genomics and Molecular Biology.
Good entrepreneurial and Health Management Skills.
(f) Ability to work effectively in the health team, and to Assume leadership role when necessary.
