Pythagoras theorem

We can say sometimes this topic is always word problem leading to QUADRATIC EQUATION

The lengths of the sides of a right angled triangle are (2x + 1)cm, (2x -1)cm and xcm.find x

SOLUTION

Using pythagoras theorem

x^2  + (2x – 1)^2 = (2x + 1)^2

Expand the bracket

x^2 + 4x^2 – 4x + 1 = 4x^2 + 4x + 1

Collect like terms

5x^2 – 4x^2 – 4x -4x + 1 – 1 = 0

x^2 – 8x = 0

Expand bracket i.e

x(x – 8) = 0

we can say that

x = 0 or x – 8 = 0

therefore x= +8 answer

you can Solve some of the word problem equation and drop your answer if you like is just for practise.

EXERCISE

  1. The sum of squares of two consecutive even numbers is 244. Find the numbers.

If actually this equation is helpful you can drop a comment below but if you are still confused about all this you can ask your question which we are here to help you.
