 # PYTHAGORAS THEOREM INVOLVING WORD PROBLEM pythagoras theorem Written by

Pythagoras theorem

We can say sometimes this topic is always word problem leading to QUADRATIC EQUATION

The lengths of the sides of a right angled triangle are (2x + 1)cm, (2x -1)cm and xcm.find x pythagoras theorem

SOLUTION

Using pythagoras theorem

x^2  + (2x – 1)^2 = (2x + 1)^2

Expand the bracket

x^2 + 4x^2 – 4x + 1 = 4x^2 + 4x + 1

Collect like terms

5x^2 – 4x^2 – 4x -4x + 1 – 1 = 0

x^2 – 8x = 0

Expand bracket i.e

x(x – 8) = 0

we can say that

x = 0 or x – 8 = 0

therefore x= +8 answer

you can Solve some of the word problem equation and drop your answer if you like is just for practise.

EXERCISE
