How much does it cost to register for NYSC?

There are two major payments that every prospective corps member will make during NYSC online registration. Below are the payments;

1. Payment for NYSC Call-up letter (optional)

2. Payment for Cyber Cafe service

Let’s discuss these two payments in details so that you make no mistake.

Payment for NYSC call-up letter (optional)

Though this payment is optional but it’s very important, so I personally advise you to pay. To be able to print your Call-up letter online, you need to pay NYSC the sum of ₦3,048. If you don’t pay, NYSC will deliver your call-up letter to your institution instead of allowing you to print it online.

Foreign trained graduates who do not pay would have to visit the NYSC Abuja headquarters to ask for their call-up letters.So, only prospective corps members who want to PRINT their call-up letters online at the comfort of their home will pay ₦3,048.

PCMs who do not want to pay the ₦3,048 have the option of going to their schools to collect their Call-up letters.

Payment for Cyber Cafe service

This payment is the money that you will pay to Cyber Cafe owners for their services, unless the Cyber Cafe owner is your brother, friend or relation who may decide not to collect money from you.

But if you have a computer and or smartphone, you can do your registration by yourself without paying those in cyber cafe.

If you must do it in cyber cafe, the amount to pay Cyber Cafe owners depends on the negotiation between you and the Cyber Cafe owner.

However, Cyber cafe service cost ranges from ₦1,500 to ₦3,000 depending on your location.

Below is the list of things prospective corps members should take along with them to the registration center.

  1. A passport photograph: You passport photograph should be clear without any obstruction. The background color should be white or off-white.
  2. Make up Free Face: Do not apply heavy make-up that day. Ladies be warned!
  3. Biro: You need Biro to write important things, that will save you from begging.
  4. Email Account: You need to have an email address preferably gmail. If you don’t have a gmail address, please create one.
  5. ATM card: You need ATM card (Visa or Master Card) to pay NYSC the sum of ₦3,048. Paying with another person’s card is still acceptable.
  6. Cash: You need to go with some cash to pay the Cyber Cafe owner and make other miscellaneous expenses.
  7. Your School Matriculation number and JAMB Reg number: if you don’t know it off head, please write it out on a piece of paper and take it along with other items.
  8. Documents for Foreign trained graduates: All the foreign trained graduates need to upload their documents during the online registration.
  9. Marriage documents for married women: Married Prospective Corps Members who need concessional deployment (posting to where their husband stay) whether foreign or locally-trained should upload copies of their marriage documents during online registration (Click here to see those documents married)
  10. Medical Report for those with Disabilities: If you are disabled, you need to upload a medical report to support your claim.

What to do for your name to be added on the NYSC Senate list www.nysc.org.ng

  1. Complete your final clearance with your institution,
  2. Sign up for NYSC at the Directorate of Students’ Affairs in your school,
  3. Confirm your name on senate list before your institution send it to NYSC
  4. Make sure your name is on the JAMB matriculation list.

  1. Go to NYSC Portal, or   CIick on https://portal.nysc.org.ng/nysc/verifysenatelists.aspx
  2. Scroll down to locate “Check Senate List or its equivalents”, and click on the link,
  3. Select your Institution,
  4. Enter your Matriculation number
  5. Enter your Surname
  6. Select your Date of Birth (Day, month, and year). If date of birth box is not clicking, leave it that way.

1. Lagos State

It is inarguable that Lagos State is the best State to do your NYSC in Nigeria, and it happens to be the former capital of Nigeria. The State has a lot of opportunities that Corpers can tap from. Lagos is a land of opportunities, in the sense that there are lots of opportunities for young graduates. And there are many recruiting companies to submit your CV.

State Allowance: The Lagos state government pays between N10,000 and N15,000 as state allowance to Corps Members posted to Lagos.

2. Abuja FCT

The second on the list of best states for NYSC in Nigeria. Abuja is the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. Although, the cost of living in Abuja is high but it is still a place you will enjoy.

There are also many job opportunities in Abuja for Nigerian graduates. And every nook and cranny is developed with no security threat.

State Allowance: Abuja does not pay state allowance but most of the private companies in Abuja pay high amount to corps members.

3. Kano State

This state worthy to be mentioned on this list. Although, many Corps Members dislike serving in North because of fragile security in the region. But Kano is exception. Kano state is very good, it is a state you will enjoy living in if you find yourself there.

Things are very cheap in Kano, making it an ideal state for all Corpers as they can save most of their allowance.

Most people that have served in Kano state claim the state is even better than Abuja and Akwa Ibom.

NYSC State Allowance: Kano state pay N4,000 as state allowance to Corps members serving in the state.

4. Ogun State

If you miss Lagos, don’t miss Ogun. The State shares borders with Lagos state, and it is among the best states to do your NYSC in Nigeria. If you ask people who served in Ogun, they will tell you how good the States is. In fact from Ogun to Lagos is about N250 for transportation.

5. Plateau State

This is also among the best place to do your NYSC. You will live large and still have your savings. The standard of living in Plateau state is normal. You can also get things very cheap in Plateau.

If you are lucky enough to serve in the capital ‘Jos’, you might forget your home state forever because of too many goodies.
